A Year of Good Books

2018 was a year of learning, practicing, sharing and teaching. Reading and writing played a very important part in everything I learned last year.

Before we get too far into 2019, I would like to share with all of you the book and tools that helped me grow mentally, emotionally and spiritually. You can conveniently order the books on Amazon right here!

If you are a fan of The Wizard of Oz or not, The Wizard of Us is a spiritual journey through Oz. This is my number one for 2018. After all these years of watching The Wizard of Oz, it finally makes sense! This book is filled with ways to open your heart, fill your brain with more knowledge, surrender and have the courage to make necessary changes and realize that everything you are looking for is in your own backyard.

Are you living in the present moment? Everyone talks about living in the moment. It is not as easy as we think. I had a hard time finding complete stillness and really taking time to be 100%, fully present. I needed a book and I couldn't have found it in a better book. Not only do I love Eckhart Tolle books, I watch and listen to his videos often. The Power of Now is the best daily guide on how to live in the NOW and stop living in the past and trying to stop using a crystal ball to see the future.

Once you get the hang of Living in the Now, now try to find complete stillness throughout your day!! Now this is challenging. Thanks to SuperSoul Conversations with Oprah, I found stillness. Oprah had Pico Iyer on as a guest and the interview was so amazing; not only did I listen to it six times, I had to buy the book. The Art of Stillness is small book with stories and information on how to unplug and find stillness in our lives.

Most of you that know me, are fully aware that I don’t like bullshit. No sugar coating. Real and authentic. I have a few books on The Chakras, but this is by far my favorite. Not only because I know the author personally, because this book is A Real-Life, No BS Guide to the Chakras. Lindsay Carricarte-Jones is authentic, honest, a Life Coach, Author, Yoga Instructor and friend. This book is “No Bullshit”. Are you stuck and can’t figure out why? Did you ever think about your chakras? Chances are they are blocked and need some help.

Many people ask “Why SUKHA”? “What does it mean”? “How did you choose the name”? Well, during my teacher training we were required to read The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali

I have blogged many times about this and I continue to flipped through the Sutras for a refresh.

Pantanjali gives four keys. He says that if we always keep these four keys with us, when we come across any of the four locks, we will have the proper keys to open.

  1. SUKHA (happy people)

  2. dukha (unhappy people)

  3. punya (the virtuous people)

  4. apunya (the wicked)

Patanjali gives 4 keys to open these locks. He says that if we always keep these 4 keys with us, when we come across any of these four locks, we will have the proper key to open it. The four keys are: maitri (friendliness), karuna (compassion), mudita (delight), and upekshanam (disregard). Patanjali reminds us that there is a Yogic way of approaching all people, no matter what behaviors and attitudes they may be exhibiting at the moment.

When you see a happy person, use the “friendliness” key. This means being able to share in another person’s happiness or good fortune, instead of being jealous or trying to destroy their joy through a bitter attitude or negative verbal comments. Through jealousy, you will not disturb the happy person but you disturb your own serenity. So we should always have the friendliness key when we see happy people.

When you see an unhappy person, use the “compassion” key. When someone is upset, try to help them or comfort them if you can. If they need space, then leave them alone after letting them know you will be there for them when they are ready. Don’t take pleasure in seeing someone else suffer, but remember how it felt when it happened to you and have compassion for them. By doing that, you will retain the peace of your own mind. “Through compassion you find that all human beings are just like you.” – HH The Dalai Lama

When you see a virtuous person, use the “delight” key. If you see a virtuous person, feel delighted. Do not envy the person, but rather appreciate the virtuous qualities and try to cultivate them in your own life. As we rejoice in and appreciate their qualities, we are inspired by knowing such greatness is possible. Observing noble qualities in others is a virtue of the heart.

When you see a wicked (non-virtuous) person, use the “disregard” key. We need to develop equanimity towards those whose actions oppose our values. It would be wonderful if all people always acted with honor and consciousness, but unfortunately this is not always the way. We ourselves, may have acted, spoken, or thought unkindly or hurt another person. So become indifferent to the person who is wicked at the moment.

There are more books from 2018. Stay tuned for part 2!!

Have a great week my friends. Happy Reading!

Breathwork Couple Session with Viki

Mid Morning Breathwork Session with Viki was amazing!!

A few weeks ago, I announced the Breathwork Circle that is being held 9/25. As you all know and I will always repeat myself, I share what I have learned and experienced. Due to a pretty packed calendar, today was the day to do the work and I could not have ask for someone better to share this with.

I do not want to give it all way, so you can have this light, open, feeling yourselves.

Viki explains the entire three part breath process, the Spirit Guide cards you choose, the feather that is chosen for you, and guides you through a challenging, emotional, fun, restorative session of breathwork.

The first emotion that came up for me was overwhelm. During the session I started to feel a pain in my lower back, my face was numb as I continued to breathe in three separate parts. My emotions were all over the place. Viki instructed us to scream at one point which was so refreshing and a huge sense of relief washed over my body that magically washed the lower back pain away. This meditation eases the mind so the body can call up and let go. It moved so much stuck energy to create healthy energy. So much healthy energy the screams turned into laughter and a peaceful mind. I was holding so many emotions in, and they are finally gone.

Viki explains how this can be done at home and how often you can do this so that negative energy and emotions do not linger. Let’s face it, it takes one situation to close it all off again.

Card Pulling!!! I love to pull cards. These were different. Animal Spirit Guides joined us today; and holy COW!! Mind blowing. Nope, I did not pull a cow. I pulled a Raccoon Card and my feather was The Hawk. I will let Viki explain how the feathers are chosen.

The Raccoon-Talented, Shadowy, In Hiding. In brief, it indicates talent, tenacity, and skillfulness with a particular musical instrument or creative tool. Which Viki explains in detail. Its shadow side points to an unresolved issue around self-image and success. What if I am ready to grow into something more? Raccoon energy won’t let us off the hook until the creative ego fear is resolved. Hmm. There is much more, but again; I don’t want to tell all about the Raccoon Card 100%.

Viki does a wonderful job explaining everything from the card, to the breath. If she finds you are struggling during the session; she will come over to make you comfortable and take you back to your breath. She is extremely knowledgeable and gifted.

Having Matt by my side participating made it more special. I was nervous at first because I was not sure what emotions I was going to release and why. It was great to share this with him.

Here’s what Matt had to say about the Breathwork Session with Viki:

“Not knowing what to expect, I walked out floored by the experience. It’s one thing to breathe, it’s another thing to learn how to breathe to connect with and learn about yourself. It was amazing. I immediately felt relaxed and confident with Viki as our guide. I look forward to seeing what else I can learn with the guidance and knowledge of Viki”.

Join Viki on 9/25 for a self-healing practice that has been called “years of therapy” in one session and is open to everyone.

So, bottom line; if you are feeling stuck, overwhelmed ,and/ or have a busy mind, this is for you. Bring a friend, hubby, wife, or family member. You don’t want to miss this!!

I am so grateful to Viki and all the amazing people who bring their knowledge and experience to SUKHA. Thank you for providing me with the tools to do the “work-in”!!

Healing one day, one breath at a time.

Akashic Records Readings at SUKHA

As you all know, I share what I learn and experience. This afternoon I had the amazing experience of Akashic Record Reading with Viki Quirk. I have been thinking about blogging the entire reading, but I have decided to share in class or give all of you the opportunity to experience this reading for yourselves. Truly amazing, eye opening and healing.

Imagine a place where you can obtain answers to any questions you have about yourself.  The answers are given to you by Ascended Masters and Teachers as well as other guides who have been charged with not only storing and protecting your sacred information, but also with assisting you in remembering your divine light and path.  This place is known as your Akashic Record and it is the energy of your soul.

Do you need clarity, direction or more healing in your life? The loving, healing energy of the Akashic Records is a profound tool for self-exploration and empowerment.

In this 30 minute reading, Viki will ask your permission to enter your Akashic Record and act as the vessel for the conversation between you and your Record Keepers.  You will be able to explore a question or two you have about past lives, life purpose, or receive general information.

Viki Quirk is a contemporary healer who believes the power to heal lies within the individual. Her work in this field started with Pilates back in 2009 when she earned her certification to teach through Pilates Academy International and Ellie Herman Studios in Brooklyn, NY.  Over the years, she has increased her knowledge and understanding of the physical body through continuing education studies on safe spine practices with Rebecca Leone and pre/postnatal with Debbie Goodman.

The more she learned about the body and worked closely with clients, she saw that the emotional, energetic, and spiritual experiences all play a role in wellness.  In an effort to provide comprehensive guidance and support to those she works with, Viki pursued additional certifications such as Reiki in the tradition of Dr. Usui Shiki Ryoho, learning to access the Akashic Records for healing with Vanessa Codorniu, and Breathwork first with Erin Teldford and then master teacher David Elliott.

Viki moved her practice to Monmouth County in 2016 where she currently lives with her husband, young son, and their dog.
