New Workshops at SUKHA

Today I announced a new teacher at SUKHA via email.

Lexy is a lover of humans, culture, astrology, holistic healing, traditional Chinese medicine, and plant based nutrition. Lexy found out at 20 years old she was called to share the healing powers of yoga. Since then she has accumulated 578 hours. She has learned under Jessie Haims, Dylan Werner, Matt Giordano, Benjamin Sears, Phillip and Ivy Askew, Abbie and Nevine Michaan from Katonah, Sam Vetrano of Bodhi Movement, Dana Falsetti, and Tina Bock. She is currently on working on becoming a Katonah teacher. A yoga influenced by Taoist beliefs. Putting the magic squares in the body, and viewing the body as a house. A house you can have party’s in, but being given the proper tools to clean the house up after you party. Getting good blood flow through the heart, oxygen to the lungs, detoxing the liver, and flushing the kidneys. She study’s birth chart reading in NYC with Shirley Soffer, and is reiki attuned.

Lexy’s will be teaching “Effort & Grace”-a meditative class that moves with the season every Monday at 9:30. This class will start with movement and heat-spring and summer, ending with restorative passive postures and guided meditation-autumn and winter.

Spring brings growth, summer allows the growth to ripen, autumn sheds layers, winter brings stillness to give nature a moment to be still so it can be re-born.

Lexy will be holding her first workshop at SUKHA Saturday, November 10 at 10:30 am. Details will be posted soon. Stay Tuned.

Please welcome Lexy to the SUKHA Community.

We are all creatures of habit. Keep in mind that by attending different classes with different teachers will introduce you to new poses that work different muscles and challenge your body in different ways. Your form will improve and you may discover a whole new style that you will love. And the best reason why you should take all of the teachers classes: You will add another positive, caring person to your life that will guide you through the most life changing practice in the world!

Now I would like to announce the two amazing workshops that will be added to the schedule.

Teachings of Katonah Yoga

For this workshop Lexy will introduce the teachings of katonah yoga ™. Katonah is a style of yoga created by Nevine Michaan using Taoist theory by putting the magic squares in your body. Nevine specializes in body reading and teaches this to her students. During a body reading you will learn which area of your body needs more attention so you can get the full effect out of your poses. We create patterns in life that manipulate our posture. This method of yoga will help you bring consciousness on where center is. One example; when you twist in low lunge do you feel like your lungs are compacted? If so, you’re not at true center. Your lungs should feel open and free. We can work on this. Working on your weaknesses and giving a break to strengths so they don’t become your weakness. For example wrist pain. Do you ever try flipping your wrist for a yoga flow? This can prevent pain and injury. This gives your strength a time breath, and builds on your weakness to support your strength. Lexy has trained 20 hours under Katonah and is plans on becoming a
Katonah instructor in the future. In this workshop she will go though a short flow to see where each individuals body has manipulated their center. Hand out materials, show a video, and body read in either mountain pose, reverse namaste, and seated bound angle pose. So you get a idea of where center is. This article is written by Abbie Galvin one of the teachers Nevine has trained. See article below.
This workshop will be held Saturday, November 10 at 10:30 am. The cost is $25

Birth Chart Interpretations Novice Level Workshop

Do you ever get asked what your moon sign is and have no idea what’s being said? Do you feel like you don’t resonate with your sun sign, and have no idea what a birth chart is? Or have a deep curiosity of which planet represents and how it effects you? Then this workshop is for you! In this workshop Lexy will give you explanations on the planets, the houses, and how to better understand your chart. You will given proper tools to be able to go home and understand your chart more. This will not be a birth chart reading, but birth guidance. Please bring in a print out of your birth chart. Time and location of birth are important to know! You can get your birth chart from website below by clicking “birth chart”

This workshop will be held Sunday, January 13 at 12:00 pm $25

These will be on the SUKHA APP. Please pay in advance to hold your spot. Katonah Yoga will be capped at 10.

Love Your BOOBIES!

Thank you to everyone who attended both donation classes and made donations. SUKHA hit the goal and raised $1,225!!

We Love Boobies!! Let’s save them by living a clean, healthy, toxic free life. Obviously there are some things we can’t fully control. Genetics and our environment but we can take action with preventative solutions such as diet, supplements, diet, exercise and less trips to the drug store.

The last few weeks I have been some research on our armpits and boobies and the things we can do to prevent the “C” word.

“Over 85 percent of the lymph fluid flowing from the breast drains to the armpit lymph nodes. Most of the rest drains to the nodes along the breast bone. Bras and other external tight clothing can impede flow”-Michael Schachter, MD.

If you ask any holistic women’s health Practitioner they will tell you that breast heath is a daily thing, and us women need to take it more seriously. We have so many unhealthy breast practices, from ill fitting bras to diets high in inflammatory foods and cooking oils. But no one wants to live in fear constantly right? So what can we do to help our boobies stay healthier and lymph system work well?

DILUTE and apply these three topically as often as you can:

Frankincense supports our breast heath on the cellular level, used topically or internally Frankincense has been shown to reduce instances of free radicals impacting our body, increase cellular vitality and support cellular renewal.

Clary Sage is considered the “women’s tonic herb” and it also functions as a tonic for our breasts.  Apply topically for skin support, tenderness, and circulation support.

Cypress supports normal circulation of fluids in our body. Use topically in clockwise motions aimed towards the underarms to help the lymph fluid flow and restore circulation to areas under compression from clothing.

So, for years we put deodorant on everyday, sometimes twice or three times a day not knowing exactly what harmful ingredients are in them. Here is just a little “secret” list of the toxins that may make you think about your next trip to the “drug” store when you need deodorant.

Aluminum is the ingredient in antiperspirants that actually clogs your pores and prevents sweating. Aluminum exposure has been linked with the development of Alzheimer’s disease and interferes with your estrogen levels. When your body can’t process estrogen properly, there’s a higher risk for breast and prostate cancer.

Parabens is a chemical that is used in a lot of products these days as a preservative, but it is possibly one of the most harmful additives of all. Sometimes parabens act as estrogen in your body, which disrupts hormonal balances and has been linked to breast cancer and prostate cancer

Steareths

These additives are the product of ethoxylation (weakening of harsh chemical in the manufacturing process), which simultaneously produces carcinogens and dioxanes.

Triclosan

The FDA has classified triclosan as a pesticide, yet it is in the majority of brand name deodorants. It’s used to kill bacteria in the manufacturing process, as well as when it comes in contact with your skin. When triclosan is combined with water it can also create a carcinogenic gas called chloroform.

Propylene Glycol

If used everyday, this chemical can cause damage to your central nervous system, heart and liver. It is also shown to irritate skin, especially if you have sensitive skin. Propylene glycol can be harmful at as small a percentage as 2%, yet deodorants generally have a high dose of 50% propylene glycol.

TEA and DEA

Triethanolamine (TEA) and diethanolamine (DEA) are chemicals can seep into your skin and affect your liver and kidneys. In fact, they’re so harmful that these two chemicals have already been banned from products in Europe because they are known carcinogens

It is so crazy for all these years we are buying harmful products that are advertised and marked as “clean” with a “fresh scent”.

So here’s the deal. I have tried many products that are marked natural and by hour 4 of my long day, I started to stink like a number 11 on the sub list! Until 3 weeks ago when I attended convention, purchased my kit and the first thing I tried was the new Balance deodorant from doterra. Smells amazing ALL DAY long and no chemicals!

Countdown to 50.

I know this may sound strange since I have 1,026 days left until I turn 50, but I felt the need to write about where I am and where I’ve been and wondering where will I be on the day I turn 50. What will my life be like?

I am not sure what encouraged me to write this. Maybe it was how good it made me feel to get carded in Salt Lake City last weekend, or thinking about how lucky our children are to have so many tools to live a long, healthy life. Whatever it is, here it is…

This blog is not about looking into a crystal ball. It is a challenge. A challenge, a blog and a picture I would like to look back on in 2021 when the big 50 approaches to see how far I have come since 2018 and I encourage all of you to do the same no matter what age.

To date, I have been through a lot just like all of you. Maybe not everything, but we have all been through “stuff”. The good, the bad and the ugly.

I am a child of divorce and a daughter of an alcoholic. We grew up in bad times and good. We lived on food stamps for a short period of time living in a not so great town. My mother was strong and worked hard. My dad had a disease, struggled and lost everything. We were fortunate enough to get out of a horrible town and live where we were meant to be.

My mother worked hard. We went to private school and college. We worked and worked hard. My sister on Wall Street, my brother with a large Pharm Company and me in NYC. As I am writing this, I stopped. WOW!! Not so bad. Three kids coming from a broken home and a father with a terrible disease. We are products of divorce!! Thanks mom!! You did good. It wasn’t easy and neither was I. Thank you. We are all where we are meant to be because of you. There are days where you may feel under appreciated, but guess what? Being a mom is the most UNDERAPPRECIATED job in the world.

I feel the need to also express gratitude to my father for the experience of being a child of an alcoholic so I can share and teach. My father has been gone four years now this month. We have had a few conversations since and I am so thankful for them. It has been healing.

We are far from perfect and each of us has our crap to deal with; but I am proud. Proud of my mom and my siblings. Thank you!

Lesson: Never judge children of a broken family.

Fortunately and unfortunately, my children are children of divorce. They are amazing and I am blessed. Woody and I co-parent well and I am thankful for that. Honors, athlete, no booze or drugs, fun, healthy and happy. And they to are not perfect. No one is. They are driven and have goals and my wish is that they never loose sight.

I have seen divorce, pain, homelessness, addiction, physical, emotional, and mental abuse. I have seen poverty in India as I inspected diamonds. I have driven old cars and new. Fancy and not so fancy. I am blessed now to be doing what I am doing. On the mat and off. Hopefully inspiring, motivating and helping people as best I can because helping others is the way we help ourselves and it feels really good.

I was never a good student. I struggled in school. It never came easy to me and I am not embarrassed to say that I was not “book smart”. I am street smart. Situational awareness and the center of my own knowledge based on MY experiences, not someone else’s. I have learned how to trust my own judgement and fend for myself. The past, present and future and I encourage everyone to try to do the same. Let’s teach our kids how to be street smart.

To date, I have visited many places and this will not stop unless I am physically unable. The beauty and slums of India, the towers and art of Paris, blue waters of Turks and Caicos, green hills, and yummy Guinness of Ireland, the changing of guards and breathtaking countrysides of England, many Caribbean Islands, cruised and boozed, paddled Rincon and sunbathed topless in St. Martin. I have 18 states left to see and many countries and Islands on the list. Travel if you can. Save those quarters. Don’t waste the money at the bar when you can put it towards a trip.

I have had my heart broken and broke a few myself. This body has seen 99 lbs and 180 lbs (no tummy tuck BTW) Boobs yes. Tummy tuck no. It’s called exercise and being in tune with your body. (moral of this story: Don’t bring others down and make shit up to make yourself look good. It has the opposite effect)

We have all suffered from pain. Heartbreak to pushing for 19 hours to give birth to an angel.

There are times when you think emotional and physical pain is so bad that you just want to give up. Storms that you never think you will get through and then you open your eyes and realize “as long as you are breathing, there is more right than wrong with you no matter what is wrong”-Jon Kabat.

This beautiful, yet challenging life I have had has shaped me and encourages me everyday to be perfectly imperfect. I am learning and growing and I will until I die keeping in mind to breathe and be fully present.

In 2021, the year I turn 50, I will have one young woman in college and my young, handsome man on his way. Holy shit!!! I encourage them to see the world. Get out of the bubble. Live. Learn. Be street smart and take care of your bodies inside and out. Where will I be? Hopefully sitting here writing to follow up on this blog. I may not be physically sitting at this desk, but I will write. My hope is that my daughter follows her dream of going to college in California and my son in Florida and I will be writing this in either of those two states as I visit them. I will be proud of them with any decision they make.

As for my professional life….who knows. Taking one day at a time. Learning and sharing through yoga. Learning, sharing and teaching how to live a perfectly imperfect, authentic, natural, healthy lifestyle until I can’t go any longer. It’s going to take a lot for me to stop.

Follow your dreams. Go for it and never give up. There is still time. 40, 50, 60 and 70 on up!! It doesn’t matter.

In three years I will be 50 years old. Wiser, smarter, stronger and healthier than ever before. Maybe my life will be half over, but one thing that I will always take with me is that I have lived a life that made me who I am today. As always, I am blessed and grateful to those who pushed me, pulled me, left me, loved me, messed with me, doubted me and encouraged me. Thank you!!

The road to 50 is going to be great.

No matter what age, learn, live, grow, heal, share, practice, teach, and breathe. Take good care of yourself today and always.

“The best investment that you’ll ever make is in yourself. Never stop exploring, learning, experiencing, and becoming a better person each day”-Mo Seetubtim
